Coffee Bags Chair

I love girly things.  I do.  I love anything that exudes romance and whimsy.  I think it is kind of apparent by our house.

We love anything lace and gilded.

We believe in waking up like princesses...minus peas under our mattresses.

Surrounding ourselves with abundant of flowers.

A girl can never have too many fancy chairs.

Why should we wait for special occasions to get all dolled up?  Shouldn't we celebrate everyday?

A romantic swing to takes us to far away places... then there are times when I find myself constantly falling in love with leather chairs.  You know the really beat up masculine ones?  I love them. I wasn't sure if a chair like that would ever really fit into our decor.  Luckily I got a chance to find out when the owner of our favorite coffee shop asked me if I could reupholster one of their chairs.  Now when I tell you this chair was in bad shape...I mean the fabric was literally disintegrating.  I wish I took a before picture but as usual I got too excited and went to town on the chair.  Here is the chair after I stripped it.

First I thought I would do my usual velvet and paint the wood lighter color but decided it would make no sense for me to use that kind of fabric for a coffee house.  So I decided to go with a really nice vinyl that has a nice leather feel and very durable.  Speaking of leather, what is your take on it?  Do you ladies like leather chairs??  First of, it is ridiculously expensive at almost $300 a hide and I would need about three hides to recover a nice wing back.  B has been wanting a nice leather chair of his own in our over the top feminine home.  I thought it would be nice to make him a leather wing back but at over a grand for one chair???  I don't know about that.  I told him if I ever make him one, it is his only for the duration of our relationship. : )  Here the chair after it is all done up.

I think it fits right in, don't you think?  I like the idea of putting on my make up in a leather chair like a BOSS.

I decided to upholster the back and the bottom with coffee bags.

I am not going to lie.  I kind of felt sad when I had to drop it off at the coffee house.

At least I got to enjoy it for one morning.

Now I just need to add a nice leather wing back to my list of chairs to do.  I will get to it one of these days.

Love,
Victoria

  1. I agree that a girl can never have too many chairs, Victoria ;) And that swing is darling! The leather and coffee bag chair turned out great. I'm pretty sure I would have kept that for myself if I were you, haha (although it will look amazing in a coffee house.)

    1. Julie, in my case, a girl can have a whole big room full of chairs. I get overwhelmed sometimes just seeing all the chairs.

  3. I think you did an incredible job on the chair, Victoria. The vinyl could not have been easy to work with. The coffee bags really make their mark, especially for where the chair is going! :)

Love your home. Don't ever change it. BTW, I was thinking of leather for a den I'm doing and then found out it scratches up very easily if you have dogs. No leather for me.

    1. Thank you, Jane. I didn't know that about leather. : / I also hear it is hard to work with. It is so far down on my to do list, I haven't even done enough research on it. I love the coffee bags. I made a bunch of coffee bag pillows for them too.

  6. Oh yes Victoria,
I so would love to have a leather chair, and real leather so it ages with all it's yummy creases and worn in wear. Yet those pricey tags that come along with leather hold me bak from taking that leap, but who knows perhaps someday I too will have that leather chair.

I have to tell you the coffee bean sacks were genius, I have seen it done before and certainly something I would have done myself if I had the sacks and I am sure the coffee shop will have the, chair in constant use for its handsome beauty and comfort.
You did an amazing job, and I think you are on your way to being the chair lady.... You know? The lady who creates beautiful chairs :)

This is a chair to love.

  8. The coffee bags make this piece. Bravo! Take a bow, Victoria!

We have an aging, cracking leather love-seat in our tiny cottage. I want to toss it off the mountain for the bears to lounge in, and replace it with a Duchesse-Brisee like the one you shared in your previous post. One can dream.

It's not that I don't like leather. Leather is handsome and durable, which is why we bought it in the first place. It's just that we've owned it forever, and I'd love to make a change.

  10. Victoria, your upholstering skills are amazing! I love the take with the coffee bags. It will look great in a coffee shop. I personally feel a distressed, beat-up leather chair can fit in a romantic setting too. I guess it just depends on the frame of the chair. Great job. Have a nice day.

  11. I love it, Victoria! I have a suede chair in our dining room. My spouse's office has never been repaired, but buried in there is a denim blue leather desk chair. Oh, and I just remembered that my ottoman in my living room is leather. So, I do have a little bit of leather for my spouse. I'm obsessed with chairs too, and I have seen some with wood frames and classic lines at second hand stores for not too much. In fact, I saw one at such a good price that I was tempted to get it, but something would of had to come out, so I passed.

  14. Looks wonderful Victoria. I mix masculine and feminine into my style. The coffee bean burlap bags add the perfect compliment to the upholstery for the coffee house. A little tip for you, check eBay for oftentimes hides and leathers get damaged in the tanning and curing stage and half cowhides and leather pieces are often sold for upholstery at a very reduced rate.
Bravo for your creative energy and redesigns.
