Happy Mother's Day and random ramblings.

Happy Mothers Day to all you wonderful and amazingly talented mothers.  The weather was so beautiful today and we spent the whole day gardening.  This is second  spring for our garden and only one or two plants are blooming.  Weeds, on the other hand, are thriving wonderfully.  We bought Petunias and snapdragons to bring color into the garden.  I wish I can say I've been doing cool projects...but I can't.  I have been doing a lot yet nothing is done.  Last week was all about painting the girls' room and setting everything up.  Hopefully I can do a post about it soon.  It was bittersweet because I had to paint over the murals I painted while eight months pregnant with Aurora.

It took me a week to paint it and it was gone in one hour.  This was before I discovered my love for decorating hence the lack of furniture.  Their room is tiny and after putting in two beds, there wasn't room for anything else.  The big news of the week was finding out that my parents are visiting in July.  I haven't seen them in about two years and they have never seen the house since I started all my crazy projects.  So now there is this pressure to get every single project done before July. <sign>  Summer time is all about gardening for me.  So I might not blog as much.  You know me...I have to feel proud of a project for me to share it with all of you.  I do have some awesome projects planned but each one of them is pretty time consuming.  Do you remember the gorgeous foot board I made?

Oh how I love it...but we didn't live happily ever after.  When I bought it, I was told it was a queen bed frame but after I was done with the project, I found out it was a full.  I can get away with using the head board but I can't use the foot board due to the curve.  No worry.  I am turning it into a day bed.  It will be the next project for my upholstery class.  These are my inspirations.

I am thinking of covering the inside with upholstery...definitely with velvet.

I am going to add more appliques to create drama.

I am in love with this mattress.  I take my class every Saturday morning.  It is probably going to take me a few months to complete.  Ok, I am done rambling.  I am wishing everyone a peaceful night.

Love,
Victoria

  1. Happy Mother's Day, Victoria. Painting the nursery room when they grow is a little bittersweet. The bed you embellished is so gorgeous, but these are beautiful inspirations for turning it in to a day bed!

    1. Happy Belated Mother's Day to you too, Su. I can't believe how fast children grow but they are now loving their new room because now "it is as fancy as your room, mom!"

  2. Happy Mama's Day. As my daughter of two little ones told me, "This is our day... we are goddesses!" :)

I too have been completely busy doing things that are not bloggable. Moving dirt. Sanding & painting door trim. Blah. More fun stuff later, yes?

I love your daybed idea!!! What class are you taking? Are you making a mattress like the one in the last photo?

Hugs (and I can't wait to see what you'll share next),

    1. Happy Belated Mother's Day to you too, Lin. Yes, I have been doing a lot of not so fun projects. ..mostly weeding. I want to take pictures of the gardens but nothing is blooming here yet. I am taking an upholstery class and I love it but my instructor is a master upholster and everything has to be done the right way. I have been reupholstering a chair for about two months now. How do other bloggers do them so quickly, I wonder? I am going to try to make the mattress like in the picture. I wasn't sure if it was possible but my instructor said absolutely so we will see. I hope you are enjoying spring in your cottage...just the sound of that feels so peaceful.

  4. Your bed must be a queen size then, and you just rested a queen size mattress on the rails, it's a shame you do not have a third bedroom to use the bed as is, as a guest bedroom bed.
What are your plans for a day bed and will you use the full size foot board tuning it into a twin size with the foot board being a bit wider then the mattress? Looking forward to what you create from it and how it fits Into your home.
Looking forward to seeing what you do with your daughters room. Is this room for both of your girls, if not could the full size bed be put in this room snugged up in the corner with a dresser on the wall next to it, such a princess style look for her.

See you an all the inspiring pieces you create soon.

    1. Dore, I have a tiny house with even smaller rooms. My plan is to cut the foot board in half and putting a piece of wood between them to create a day bed. The foot board is pretty low so I have two French provincial end tables that I am going to be cutting up to get the legs. I am planning to make a custom tufted mattress like in the picture. The girls are sharing a room and I try to get them to have their own rooms just so one of them can have the bed but they refused...then they fight every night anyway. It must be a sisters thing. I ordered Tracy Porter books from the library. I am very excited to read them. I hope you are enjoying this beautiful weather!

  5. Day bed sounds dreamy, and a bit of work..and I am working on one too! I just ordered a how to upholster book. The one I bought is actually a fainting couch. It will be in the shop soon so I can start tinkering with it during work if I am alone for any length of time...xo

    1. I saw the day bed you got, Amy. It is gorgeous. I have a few upholstering books and I've seen bloggers reupholster chairs all the time but I have to say taking this class made me realize why it is sooo expensive to get anything reupholster.

    1. Thank you so much, Mary Alice. I am excited for my parents to see the girls. I am very new to gardening and I have to say I feel like I am weeding 99% of the time. We just planted annuals this weekend but starting a vegetable garden and cut flower garden are our big plan for the summer.

  7. I am looking for a french vintage daybed. Any ideas where to find one? Most likely it will have to be something I can find on the internet and have shipped since I live in a small town in Iowa.

Also, I did find an adorable twin bed but the headboard is twice as high as the footboard. Would that look odd for a daybed?

    1. French day beds are so hard to find, aren't day? I have seen several on craigslist but most of them are in bad shape and they still go for close to $500. And you would still need to get it reupholster. I say check ebay, craigslist or etsy. Or check this site called auctionzip.com. You can find auctions near you and sometimes can even see pictures before you go. You can always make one yourself too. If you want a day bed with the back then you would need a headboard and I think it might look a bit off if the footboard is much higher than the headboard. It all depends on the look you are going for. Good Luck!

  8. Well, Victoria I am excited to see your vision with the day bed and where it fits in.
You my dear have a job ahead of you, but none the less you inspire like none other.
Yes, it's a sister thing...what's not better then fighting with a sister :)

I too live in a very small home, after a divorce of my own things turn around and you see the beauty in small homes with grand things of beauty as you have done here. You make me want to pull in more colour, yet my daughter wants to keep our tones of calm, she says it's relaxing to her and me of course.
I am excited to see the mattress you tufted, and have so wanted one of my own, I will be keeping a close eye on your talents.
You inspire the best of found a treasure pieces.
