Sometimes a girl just have to paint...

Sometimes, after I put the girls to bed for the night, I find myself feeling restless.Of course there are lots of things I should be and could be doing. Last night was one of those nights.  I had chairs I should be working on for clients.  I had laundry I should be folding and piles of book I could be reading but I didn't want to do any of those.  I found myself walking into my work room staring at sea of chairs I have been hoarding collecting.  I pulled out a French love seat I have been wanting to reupholster for awhile.  I went to my paint cabinet and pulled out my little art case.  While Mat Kearney singing softly in the background, I painted...and painted.

I painted the upholstery with half Annie Sloan chalk paint in Antoinette and half water mixture.  I let it dry for a few hours.  Ideally you should let it dry for at least 24 hours.

I am not a trained painter.  I am however inspired by amazing artists such as Katie Rodger of Paper Fashion.  She has this ability to use paint to create such magical images.  Is there anything more beautiful than magic of paint and ladies in gorgeous gowns?

Painting on fabric is definitely a lot more different from canvas.  I wanted the painting to be soft and feminine.

Originally I thought Bella might like it but when I showed her this morning, she said, "Well, isn't that a silly thing?"  I guess she doesn't like "anything pretty" anymore.
Instead of hiding in my work room until I get a chance to reupholster it, now this lovely chair can be in Aurora's room.

Be Different.  Be Weird.  Be You.

Love,
Victoria

  4. Victoria very lovely, soft and feminine. I love the fabrics texture enhancing the painting. I oftentimes find when you take time away from the norm magic occurs. You my sweet friend created magic. Pretty in Aurora's room, I'd never reupholster it. Isn't kids personalities funny, constantly changing, Bella is into more dramatic right? Wanting her room painted Black.
    Have a creatively fun week.

    1. Thank you, Vera. I wasn't sure how I felt about the fabric texture but I really does enhance it. The paint definitely absorb more because of the painted fabric underneath.

  5. I love what you did with the chair. It's perfectly magical. I love how daring and creative you are. Once a week, I doodle girls (teens) in long dresses in a music notebook for my daughter, (kitties too); she loves being surprised when she looks at her notes, because I did two things at once (lesson notes and doodles) xoxo Su

  8. Is Bella your oldest? I've forgotten. Sounds as if she's already entering those pre-teen years! I love this and thanks for the recommendation of the Paper Fashion site. I can see why you find it inspirational.

  13. Oh Victoria - this is really painful to look at! I have a split personality on decorating - one half of me is horse themed rustic reclaimed salvage farmhouse (the half than won. The other half yearns for the pretty feminine unique d├ęcor and ideas you exude throughout your house and is beating up the other half of me on reading your post haha! If I had even a fraction of your talent I would be tempted to do a 180 on my decorating! You always inspire me though to be individual and explore new ideas. This gorgeous loveseat is a prime example - people are painting their upholstery these days but I have not seen art painted on top of that - you amaze me!

  18. That is so stunning! I can not believe you painted this. I thought this was a fabric at first with princess figures. What an amazing job and a gift. I totally want this in my daughters room...I think I may have to find the princess fabric though, my painting skills are no where close to that. Pinning!

  19. Just gorgeous! I admire your talent. My idea of painting constitutes something akin to paint by number. I'm pinning this anyway to my furniture board. It's really beautiful.

  21. This is just beautiful! I've been thinking about it a lot ever since I first saw this post, wondering what I can paint on in my house! So inspiring! Also, I've been wondering if what you have in Bella is a baby teenager? She's sounds like she might be warming up for teenagerhood !!

  23. It's so so pretty. If your daughter doesn't want it, I'm 46 years old and I'd love something like this. Don't reupholster it!!! Some lovely girl out there would love to have this. PS... I have a thirteen year old who would no longer want such a pretty thing in her room too. sigh.
