I have been bit by the gardening bug again. Last week I spent everyday digging holes and making flower beds in the backyard. When I did my front yard garden two years ago, I was scared and didn't know what I was doing. Two years later, I still don't know what I am doing but I am a little braver now. I am planning to put four more flower beds in the back. I am nothing if not overly ambitious. The last two days have been dark and rainy. I keep looking out my windows and itching to tend the garden. My peonies have finally bloomed but all this heavy rain is washing away the petals. Today, the girls and I braved the rain to cut some peonies for the house.
Oh Peonies. I wish they last forever and bloom continuously through out the season.
Of course I couldn't help myself but take pictures of them.
I have two different varieties of peony. The pale pink one only gets a single bud on each stem but this darker pink one gets multiple buds. That pretty much sums up my knowledge on peony.
I can't wait to share this amazing antique French swan head daybed with you soon.
It doesn't look like the rain will be stopping anytime soon. What a girl to do but read about gardening on days like these?
Wishing you sunshine and warm breeze where you are.
Love,
Victoria
Your peonies are lovely. I wish we could grow them here. Wishing you sunshine and joy in the garden.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sarah. I am wishing for sunshine here too.
DeleteGorgeous photos showcasing your magnificent peonies. It is my favorite flower and my garden has about four varieties of these beauties. Too bad they are so short lived. But I have enjoyed their beauty tremendously.....
ReplyDeleteI have a post featuring my peonies also if you wish to visit.
Wishing you a lovely week.
Janet
I am loving your garden too, Janet. Peonies to me are just so delicate and romantic. I think....well I wish I could have a peony flower bed.
DeleteThose are such whimsical photos of your daughter. My daughter has a pink raincoat too, but it's for Italy, because it doesn't rain much here. The peonies are gorgeous, and I wish they could grow here. I think you learn what you are doing as you garden. xoxo Su
ReplyDeleteThank you, Su. It normally doesn't rain this much here but this week has been dark and gloomy here.
DeleteSomething so sweet about rain and raincoats on little girls that are so picture perfect.
ReplyDeleteYour floral photos are so romantic.
Enjoy your spring rain, taking a moment to water your garden beds and all that it inspires of you.
Xoxo
Dore
I wish I can still wear rain coats too, Dore. I am taking the girls to Laguna beach at the end of the month. We are ready for beach and Disney land.
DeleteYou have such a beautiful soul!
ReplyDeletePeonies are so tender...if you know rain is coming-run out and cut them very fast, They sag and fall under the pressure. If you want to dry them. put them in a vase with about an inch of water. Let it dry up and leave them alone to dry. They will last for sooo long! Dried of course!
Your daughter is a beauty.
Read books on gardening---forget the Internet. Find the books that apply to your sort of gardening.:)))

Thank you, Jane! I love reading gardening books. Pinterest is easy but looking through books is the best way to spend lazy sundays.
DeleteYour peonies are so beautiful! I don't mind the rain so much, but when it's endless for days it's nice to see some sunshine. We planted three peonies in our front yard this spring and they didn't come up. There are a few out back that have been here for years and two out of three of those bloomed. I'll have to read up I guess and find out whats going on. As always, your photos are stunning and I'm excited to hear about your new furniture find.

Sally, it has been raining every single day for half a week now. I don't mind it and my roses are loving it but I am ready for sunshine again. The only thing I did differently this spring is to put compost and fertilizer around each plant. Maybe that will help?
DeleteAbsolutely gorgeous, Victoria. Every. Single. Photo.

Thank you, Lin. We only get three months of gardening season so I savor every single day.
DeleteVery soft and pretty and the peonies are gorgeous-so are the girls! Cant wait to see the swan daybed!
ReplyDeleteThank you, my friend. I keep thinking how am I going to every have a garden like that in CA.
DeleteLovely post, especially your sentiment and that last picture! I loved Tasha Tudor 30 years ago and it is so nice to see someone love her.
ReplyDeleteKaren, I love Tasha Tudor books. A few years ago, I found one of her children books at a used book store and every since then I have loved every Tasha Tudor book.
DeleteAdorable sweet photo of your daughter in the pink raincoat. Your Peonies are so pretty, I do not grow them, love them but have boxwood beds and flowers in containers... City living. My Peonies come from Trader Joe's and Wholefoods, love when they have the White ones and the Pinks. Such a short growing season. My Mom used to have the prettiest Peonies but she would never bring them into the house because of ants being a problem. I know they go for the sweetness of nectar and leave after it's been extracted. Victoria oh that romantic daybed with Swan arms ... Stunning!
