Spring Happenings In The Garden

My favorite time to walk around the garden is in the late evening when the sun stubbornly holds onto the sky and evening breeze whispers soft lullabies to lure the night stars.  By then I probably have spent hours weeding and fussing around the garden.  I love to stand next to my lavender plants after I have finished watering the garden and inhale that deep intoxicating earthy sense.

most of my spring blooming plants are just slowly starting to wake up from the long winter.

I added three more lupine plants this year.  The combination of lupines and peonies are just breathtakingly beautiful.

Like a child, I love walking around the garden while counting the peony buds.

Irises spread like wildfire throughout the gardens.

These beauties are from my rose garden.  I love this coral color so much that I am going to add more to this spot.  They bring so much color and beauty to this garden before roses make their entrance.

This front yard garden has been such a labor of love.  Finally this year I feel like I got it under control.  Naturally I want to do the same to my backyard.  I have to keep reminding myself to take one small step at a time.  After all gardens don't happen in one season.  Didn't somebody wise once said "To plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow?"  May you find peace and happiness while getting your hands dirty and watching beautiful things grow.

Love,
Victoria

  2. It amazes me how your garden can come back in such abundance after all those months of snow! It's truly inspiring in all its beauty. The evening light is my favorite during May and June...then in July, when the heat waves of Summer come, it will be the early morning light that I will savor.

    1. I am surprise too, Kerrie. I lost a couple of roses but it was my own fault for not mulching them enough. I think putting compost and fertilizer down in the spring really helped too.

  4. So lush and gorgeous! The purple blooming tree makes such a beautiful backdrop. Do you know what that is? I love all of the color and texture you incorporated and it must smell divine. I bought some organic fertilizer for my tomato plants and my husband sprinkled it all over the place when I wasn't looking. So our garden smells like BLEEP. lol
    Really pretty Victoria!

    1. Hi Sally. Thank you! I think it is a very old Rhododendron. I have been putting lots of compost and manure too. You can smell a whiff of flowers then a whiff of shizzit. lol

  7. Victoria,
Beautiful, the colors of purple are stunning the coral gorgeous. All the snow that blanketed you this past winter allowed the ground to rest and awake with vibrancy! You color your world through flowers and it becomes you.

  9. I'm swooning over all those pretty shades of purple. Is that an Azalea with your lavender? Everything looks just so lush. We're just starting to enjoy our lilacs here so we are a little behind.

    1. Thank you, Mary. It is rhododendron but I think it has been there for over almost twenty years now. It is late for us too.

  12. Amazing! I remember when you planted this front garden! Look how it has fluffed out and grown and become lush! Would you consider posting a few photos of the whole thing together, like from the same angles as your original garden photos so we can see the difference? I just moved to a new house and am trying to put in a garden, it would be so inspiring to see that there is hope for my garden too. You are an inspiration!

    1. Thank you so much!!! That is a great idea to do a before and after. I have learned that it takes about two gardening seasons for all the plants to really grow in together.
