When life gives you a $15 bed frame from Savers, you dress it up with some luscious velvet. I mean did you expect anything else? Here is the before.
A friend from my upholstery class found it at a local Savers and picked it up for me. It was kind of a perfect timing since I sold the girls' iron beds very quickly. Do you remember these??
They are now gone to other little girls. Oh how they grow fast. So for the last two weeks, I have been painting, upholstering, and moving things around. I think when you work around a very tight budget and buying things you want is not an option, you just have to take your time and get creative. I used this gorgeous dark purple velvet fabric I already have but it was perfect because Bella was very adamant about black, dark purple, and hot pink being her color choices.
Ok. Can we talk about the chalkboard walls? I am not going to lie. I was very nervous about them but they came out so good! I am painting one wall white to bring a bit more light in. I am so happy I painted the rest of the room black. Now back to the bed.
I just painted a coat of Fusion Mineral paint in Sterling. I didn't want the paint to look too perfect. A little imperfect is needed to balance out the velvet. I upholstered thin plywood then simply nailed them to the head board and foot board. I really had so much fun upholstering the bed that I want to do more!! Of course I have no need for any more beds.
I used things I have around the house to decorate this side of her room. The gold mirror really shines with the black wall. Right now I am reupholstering a chair per her request. She sketched out a design with velvet and faux fur. Yup she is my daughter. I am thinking that is where the pink will comes in. Next on the lists are building a small desk, sewing bohemian curtains, and some art works. This girl got it good.
Here is to six years olds who know exactly what they want and don't let their mommies talk them out of anything. I am wishing everyone a wonderful Thanksgiving!
Love,
Victoria
Gorgeous Victoria! Love a girl who knows what she wants! My daughters new room is white and black.
ReplyDeleteVictoria,
ReplyDeleteI am glad you listened to Bella and her desire for moody and dramatic. OMGosh the deep plum velvet is a divine color. I have a faux fur throw from Restoration Hardware I'm willing to send for you to strip the thing and reupholster Bella's chair. I purchased it last Christmas and it the Wolf, grayish brown.... Very soft faux fur. But they had put a stuff meshing in between the faux fur and the velvet that once taken apart this will work perfectly for an upholstery of faux fur front and pink back. Interested, let me know. My gift to you and Bella.

Vera
Oh Vera, you are so kind. Thank you so much. We would love it if you are still offering. I am wishing you the happiest of Holidays!!!
DeleteBravo! bravo!!
ReplyDeleteOH yes I am so glad all my empowering you to go black with her room was not a waste, it's bold and strikingly amazing.... I love this stately dramatic vibe here, and yeas the gold mirror is the piece for this little girls room.... Its a very mature move for Bella, and I love that her mom is listening to her requests.
I bet you want to sleep in her room now don't you Victoria, I know I sure wood, I would love to do some bold move with non colour on my walls, maybe a charcoal grey room here for us?
The pink and fur chair sounds great, many I would take Vera up on her offer, she has such a kind heart to offer you a throw that indeed I am sure it is fabulous.
I am looking forward to the art on her walls, and how the room all falls together.
Oh about the white wall, I know you thought about planking it, I saw a great idea wher Home Depot cut plywood into planks, this could be a big savings over pink planking and a real easy hanging with the plywood.
Looking forward to how she reacts to the finished designs.
See you soon.
Xx

DeleteOh well you know what I meant to say, oh and not that I had to talk you into this black, you already new exactly what mood you were going for here for Bella...
I think she will grow up to be a dramatic artist like her Mother :)

Very moody! I love it. I don't think I had a thought in my head at that age about my surroundings. She's starting early.
ReplyDeleteI didn't either, Teddee. I think it is because she is constantly around it?

It's coming along great. Very dramatic. I look forward to seeing the final reveal.
ReplyDeleteI love a black room, and so love it that you went with it. It's beautiful. I also love the purple with the black, and I always love gold and velvet. Gorgeous choices and work_ to all. I don't know if you are planking one wall, but I used a planking product that comes from Home Depot that is easy to work with. I used it in my spouses office, and I'm using it a project that I'm currently working. Black paint stains it beautifully, and the grain can be seen, but I have not yet tried white. It's a two sided wood product with two different sides. Have a beautiful Thanksgiving holiday. xoxo Su
ReplyDeleteOhhhhhh my.....how beautiful is that!!! Your daughter has your decorating sense. I think she'll go far with that. You did good mama. Love and a blessed happy Thanksgiving.
