Floral Art

Almost everyday now I look out my window and think there is no way all of this snow is going to melt for my gardening season.  Since spring seems so far away and it will be awhile before I can get my hands dirty in my garden, I decided to create my own little indoor garden...well sort of.  This idea of creating a floral installation has been on my mind for quite some time now.  Today just kind of seem like the perfect day to work on it.

This spot is right by my front door.  I love the idea of having a statement wall right when you walk into the house.  If you know me, then you know I always have plenty of empty picture frames and chairs...just ridiculous amount of chairs.  I stapled chicken wire to my frames to use as a base for my installation.  Actually what I really wanted was everything to feel like a painting but with real flowers in them.

It just feels like spring every time you look at it, doesn't it?  I love the fact that they will still look good when the flowers become dry flowers and if I want to, I can just simply add new flowers to the frame.  Oh and how gorgeous are these chairs?  They are antique French Louis XV dinning chairs.  I bought a pair at my favorite antique shop, The Trading Post.  Then as I was leaving she made me take two more that needed re caning.  I am probably going to upholster them then...I am afraid to say this... paint the frame.  I always feel guilty painting real antique but I feel like these ladies need it?  Now back to my floral installations.

I love having plants and flowers all over the house.

This project reminded me how important it is to just play.  I feel like as children we can just play and use our imagination without boundaries.  We didn't care about trends or labels.  I realized I always want to hold onto that child like wonder.  I want to just play.  I hope this post brings a little more sunshine and spring to your day.

Love,
Victoria

  3. Victoria in my medicine cabinet I keep a vintage rubber naked baby doll - all of a wee 4 inches, Each morning when I wake and open the cabinet to brush my teeth I sigh, She is there to remind me to always embrace and reward the child inside, I don't know if you can understand this but this post in your innocence of seeking beauty through nature reminded me of how I feel each and every morning, I truly delight in your posts my dear,

    1. Thank you, Vera.I think being with my two girls remind me to hold onto that innocence. This is a society of rules, boundaries, and labels. I like to keep them away from that for as long as I can.

  5. Victoria it is so beautiful. I love love love it!!! I have lots of empty frames in my studio and home because I just like them leaning here and there. I have a really large grey washed one that I am going to hang some roses in like you have done here. Thank you for the inspiration!!!! I love your new chairs and I would paint them too. Just like you said...be childlike...a child would definetly paint them!

We have had such a warm weekend and all our trees and flowers are blooming. I am lucky, I know, to be able to garden year round. I have tomatoes, peas, carrots, onions, strawberries, herbs and two dwarf nectarines planted right now. We have been in our garden for the past two weeks planting, weeding, watering... today I just sat in the shade and rested while listening to all the happy birds.

    1. Kerrie, I wish I could paint like you. I really do! Since I can't paint as well as I would like to, I try to find other mediums to work with. Actually I should take a painting class this summer. I can't wait to see your garden pictures...especially your rose garden!

  7. Oh Victoria,
Your child's play delights, I adore your artistic innocence, and in your art I do see a beautiful floral canvase painted with beautiful pink roses and such. As for the chairs I had one just exactly like the one on the right and it was an antique, it was in poor cain shape and I decided to tear the chair apart and use it for pieces on a couple of theatres and art projects that faired so much better then a chair.
Don't feel guilty for wanting to paint it, painted pieces at best cost more then a stain grade piece if bought new, and if it was not owned by royalty then the value of the antique is in the eyes of the beholder.
I say paint it, add value to a chair or chairs with your fabulous paint finishes.

I have lots of naked frames just sitting about empty, I could do something along the line of what you did here, perhaps with some of my paper-mache flowers :)

Keep inspiring your garden before to long it will be in full bloom.

Sending you over some warm Southern California days.

Ps. I have some new art pieces I just posted about, these warmer days are inspiring my art :)

    1. Dore, it would look soooo gorgeous filled with paper mache flowers!!!You could do frames of all sizes with words and letters hanging from the wire. Oh I could just see it now. I remember your chair. I am going to paint these chairs. I just want something very neutral. I wish I could upholster them with neutral linen too but that doesn't make sense in my house right now with my two and their chocolate milk. I am going to be in Southern cali next month to enjoy the sunshine!

  13. This is such a good idea. I tie my flowers together and hang them from the large picture window in my kitchen. I would like to try this idea and keep adding new flowers while the others are drying! Then when I have enough put them on a picture frame so someone I love is framed in flowers. Thank you for sharing.

  15. What a beautiful way to display your flowers. You are so creative, Victoria. I like the idea of just letting them dry out and adding more blooms as you want. Spring weather WILL be here before you know it! It really has been a tough winter in your area. I think our even our Montreal winter has been tamer.

  17. Love all the vibrant color, yes it does look like Spring for sure. So beautiful and inspiring! Our snow finally melted, except for a few of the brown piles from the plows. We don't usually get that here so it's so weird to see.
