Do you love it??? Pink? check. Gold detailing? check. Just look at that frame!
I don't know what year it was made but since I can see where the pieces are connected, I want to say it is more of a vintage than an antique. I am taking it to my upholstery class to get it strip to the frame. I want to modernize it a bit. Here is what I am thinking.
White or beige linen. Old white+gold details.
Or either French linen or Paris Grey. I want to start bringing in more neutral tone to my very gilded decor.
I also picked up a pair of late 1800s Victorian Eastlake parlor chairs. They are beautiful and petite. Do you think chairs are smaller back then because people are generally smaller? It must be their organic diet with no growth hormone. I have an idea of what I want to do with them.

How gorgeous are these? I am pretty sure I will get kick out of my class if I tell them I am going to paint antique Victorian chairs. I am hoping to be able to open an online shop in the fall. Beautiful re imagined mirrors, gorgeous vintage chairs, and whatever else my imagination let me create. I am so happy to have all of you in my life and I can't wait for you to go on this journey with me.

I really like the pink one as is...I do not think I could do anything to it. But white linen would look best in my sea cottage so I know it will be beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThe chair is really old, Kerrie. I thought maybe shabby light pink velvet too. As much as I love white linen, it is a very risky move for my household. So we shall see.

I have an obsessions with French chairs too, and I have way too many, but mine are less ornate, more French country, and the oldest are only about 40ish. I would love to find something like this, but I need to walk right by the chairs.

ReplyDeleteFunny you mentioned the size being smaller. We were at historic Dodgertown, which was built in the 40's, and the stadium seats were tiny! I told my husband the people of today would need 2 seats to be able to sit comfortably!

ReplyDeleteI love personally more neutrals for for my decor living once with golds and colour, now it's time for a bit calmer tones in my life. So I pick the whites yet fear in upholstery finish it maybe hard to keep clean not being able to take it off and wash it. I had a chair finished in a heavy muslin fabric and a slip cover made for easy removal to launder.
Such big dreams for this chair I am sure, and I am sure it will look divine.
Love chairs, and wish I could fit a few more in my small home :)

I'm not sure where you are, I kind of suspect in the northeast somewhere, but if you are in the midwest, I have an antique mirror with roses that I think you would probably like and I would like to give to you. It's way too heavy and fragile to send, but if you are around here I would bring it to you. I live in northern Indiana. I'm moving so we need to connect quickly but I just this moment thought of it so I thought I would give it a try….I could send you a pic if you like.

This chair is absolutely yummy. I love it the way it is, but I know you'll work your magic. At first I thought the mirror frame behind the chair in the first picture was part of the chair frame. Wouldn't that be awesome? An asymmetrical chair frame!

I am taking upholstery class now and I am thinking of getting a staple gun and air compressor for home. Do you use manual staple gun or air gun? As for my own button, you know, I consider myself pretty smart but when it comes to coding and programming, I am completely clueless. I might have to get myself a book on blogging for dummies.
DeleteI love French chairs! In fact, I love everything about French Rococo styles. The first one really has a vintage vibe. One can really see the wear and tear on the close up, which I think adds charm and character. The last one is gorgeous too, with the lyre back support design. Though my favorite would have to be the white linen with gold frames. Its pristine look would sway anyone, whether or not they're a fan of the style itself. Anyway, thank you so much for sharing!
