Stop and smell the roses and recent finds

Even though the ground is still covered in snow, we are all spring out inside.  Simple things in life make me happy...such as cupcakes and flowers and I make sure I have abundant of both around me at all time.

Today has been a lazy day for us girls.  Play tents were made and we were entertained by Mary Poppins.  Even the dogs felt lazy.

I have to say I love days like these.  Simple days with no where to be and we can really stop and smell the roses...or just flowers in our case.

Yesterday Aurora and I found a bunch of milk glass dishes at our local Savers.  I enjoy collecting them.

Look at all the details.  What would one call these?  Small serving dishes?  I also found a set of small casserole dishes with handle.

Also this beautiful brass trays.

So I finally set up an Etsy shop last night then when it was time to list things on the shop, I got all intimidated.  What do I write for description and how do I figure out shipping and policies?  : /  It will have to be a project for another day. In the mean time, back to our lazy day.

Dreaming in Fairy Tales French Settee

Oh Spring, where art thou? Really where are you?  The tropical girl in me is done...D.O.N.E with this winter.  Usually I have so much energy.  I just keep on moving and moving.  My working time starts after 8 when everyone is in bed and I can do my projects in peace.  Now I am in bed at 8.  I feel guilty about not working on my projects but I can't seem to push myself...sign... : / Anyway, this is what I have been working on.  I can honestly say this is th fanciest thing I own.

  She wasn't always Fancy Nancy.  I found her on craigslist and B got it for my birthday.  This is her before we found each other.  The fabric needed serious cleaning.

First I thought I was going to reupholster her but even if I do it myself it would still costs me hundreds.  I wasn't ready for it yet.  So I decided to paint her with ASCP.  A big risk since I love her so much.  I still plan to reupholster her when I can afford it.  In the mean time, Hello, Pretty.  Where have you been all my life?

There are a lot of tutorials on how to paint fabric.  It actually is pretty simple.  I mixed 50% of Old white with 50% of water.  I sprayed the fabric first before painting it.  It helped the paint spread better.  It took three coats to get the look I wanted.  I let it dry 24 hours between each coat.  Here is what I learned.  The settee has this really pretty embroidery and I realized no matter how many coats of paint I paint, it will still show through.  So the smoother fabric will probably work better.

It also feels like leather.  So this isn't where I would want to lie down with a good book for hours.  This would be a great statement piece. Got fur babies? Keep them away.  Now, I got three fur babies and every time they jump on it, I can see their nail marks.  It's not that obvious but if you are OCD like me, you WILL see it.  All in all, I love how she turned out.  For the price of one paint can, I got the look I wanted.

 I made pillow cases out of coffee sacks.  The settee looks too pretty without the pillows.  The girls are very excited for their "princess chair."  I think the grandness of the chair is balanced out by delicate flowers.

Dreaming in Fairy Tales Tea Party

I have been dreaming in gold lately.  Being an artist, I am forever inspired by the world around me and it is a beautiful world we live in.  Recently I found this image on Tumblr and it strikes me deep into my soul.

It is so breathtakingly beautiful.  The moment I saw this dress, a million ideas rushed into my head.  The color to the beaded texture to the three dimensional flowers...omg...gorgeous overload.  So I have decided to do a little series of project inspired by the dress I like to call Dreaming in fairy tales.  And what better way to start it than a fairy tale tea party.

 

A tea party fits for a queen or princesses...

Lets reminisce about sweet summer days under the dried roses chandelier.

and dream of walking through fields covered in roses.

What is better than getting lost in stories while having a cup of tea?

Of course we have to have cake...lot of cakes.

 And sweet macaroons.

 lets lie on silk as bright as gold.

We can't forget our flower crowns!

Spend the day wondering where the next adventure is.

Party is not over until every drop of tea is gone and no more cake in sight.

Even Princess Lily enjoys a spring tea party.
